OVERALL MISSION

The Bureau Chief is the leader of the team and ensures the respect of Euronews’ line and the quality of all content on all platforms. The Bureau Chief has a role of represention and promotion in the concerned geographical area.

The successful candidate will have a responsibility to manage a production team based in Baku who will be working to tight deadlines to produce a diverse set of compelling shows for TV and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have  a proven track record in producing feature content of the highest quality across TV and digital platforms.

The Bureau Chief’s role will be broad and varied. The successful candidate will need to be an agile operator, able to multi-task and oversee a team working across a diverse range of content focusing on Central Asia. 

This role will be based in Baku and can become well connected with the local landscape to build a team to deliver an intense production schedule. Management experience and a hands-on attitude will be crucial to delivering the amount of content needed in a relatively short period of time. As well as managing the team, the successful candidate will also have additional commercial duties. An ability to balance corporate demands with our editorial integrity so being an efficient self-starter will be crucial.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The role, as Bureau Chief of Euronews Azerbaijan will be to :

• Lead the Baku’s teams: the Bureau Chief leads the overall  operations of the team to produce a variety of output on television and digital at the highest production standards, ensuring the  integrity and respect of Euronews’ fundamental values.
• Help hire & Manage the team based in Baku: work closely with Euronews’ HQ, Brussels and corporate management to recruit staff, manage the start-up and overall operations of the office.
• Coach and supervise producers and tech crew: share knowledge and experience of producing first class content to help train and lift the skills and expertise of the newly formed team.
• Plan and manage all daily operations to ensure the most efficient operations and the highest  production standards. That means the right dedicated staff for the requirements of each show.
• Track Bureau Budgets: work closely with Euronews’ productions to ensure the most efficient operational and budgets-respect processes to deliver content efficiently and on time.
• Quality Control: work with the central Euronews newsroom to put in place measures to ensure a rigorous process for quality control by leading and overseeing all assignments and deliveries. Hands-on support will be needed.
• Forward Planning: work closely with the central editorial management and the bureau team to develop the most compelling ideas for upcoming events and conferences.
• Compliance Knowledge: be familiar with the rules governing the production of television programmes in Azerbaijan to make sure we meet all compliance demands and produce content in-line with Euronews’ own editorial guidelines and fundamental editorial values.
• Resolve issues as they arise: the ideal individual for this role will need a flexible approach to work and able to deal with issues as they arise and work closely with the teams in Europe to solve issues and offer workable solutions especially when trying to balance client demands with editorial integrity.
  
  

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Success in this role requires an inspirational leader with a diverse experience in making content and leading a diverse team. The Bureau Chief will have a passion to develop new formats and explore new subjects that will not only help our advertisers achieve their communication goals but also give our audiences fresh and exciting content to view.

The ideal Bureau Chief is also collaborative and team spirit, calm under pressure. A solutions orientated outlook is vital to help solve challenges as they arise. The ideal Bureau Chief for Baku is a superb communicator and motivator able to inspire and lift each member of the team during times of heavy workloads and demanding schedules. A diplomatic approach to dealing with clients and the sales team is also important. The list above is not all encompassing and the individual who undertakes this role will be expected to undertake a wide range of tasks when called upon by Euronews.

Technical Skills

• Education level required: 4/5 years’ higher education 
• Language skills: excellent command and professional practice of English (near native level). Any additional “Euronews” language like Russian is a plus
• 8 years of professional experience in news production (audio-visual, online)
• Accustomed to working within a multicultural and multilingual setting
• Broad general knowledge allowing him/her to cover a variety of topics
• Knowledge and great interest for the region
• Well-connected locally and active local network in the relevant industries in Azerbaijan 
• Able to understand Euronews processes, constraints and production deadlines
• Track Record in producing high quality features/magazine television & digital content
• Very good digital culture and fluency in the use of technology and web design

• Working hours: Full-time
• Shift Bureau Chief:
  • From Monday to Friday
  • Flexibility required: weekend and evening work can be required
• Contract start date: as soon as possible
