Job summary

Euronews is looking for several experienced and responsible journalists to act as TV Producer for its current affairs programmes produced in Brussels, Belgium, which define Euronews’ media brand and its standing.

The Producer is in charge with editing and scripting stories and overall program segments both in scheduled programs and breaking news events, providing a variety of editorial and production support to the executive producers.

Candidates must understand the power of visual storytelling both on air and online, and the importance of social media as an integral part of newsgathering and reporting.

Candidates must have extensive control room experience and thrive under pressure: able to produce stories as assigned without sacrificing the quality and journalistic integrity of the on-air and on-line product.  The successful candidate is creative, curious, efficient, and a problem solver.

The producer reports to the Executive Producer of the assigned program and to the Head of Europe Desk for the overall needs of the newsroom.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to overall vision, content, editorial planning process and carrying out the optimal production operations for the assigned programmes, including suggesting stories, topics and guests
  • Produce and edit programme segments, as assigned, for television and digital
  • Work with anchor, executive producer, newsgathering teams, newsroom management as directed, as well as with the booker and the selected guests to write and edit scripts, prepare rundowns, gather elements, edit video, produce television sequences, research facts, and create compelling graphics for segments on television and digital integration
  • Pitch and suggest topics and guests for the assigned programmes
  • Delivers high-quality research and information to the anchor for each planned interview or debate as well as story and show segments, making sure the anchor has the right facts to deliver accurate information and analysis
  • Collaborate with technicians in control room and all other technical areas involved with the programmes production
  • Collaborate with other newsroom units, managers, and all divisions of Euronews for the general coverage
  • Work with all facets of the organization, including production, IT and engineering and the newsroom to ensure the most accurate and compelling coverage
  • This an hands-on role, so it implies if need be to book guests quickly or to help the rest of the team with operational tasks
  • Build a network of high-quality sources and guests
  • Other tasks may include assisting in updating online stories and video, updating on-air graphics, participating in planning meetings for big news events (I.e. elections), preparing research packets for big news events such as elections, political events, summits. For the need of a specific show: take a leading role in the development of the programme in Greek and Portuguese

 

Required profile :

  • Minimum 4 years of higher education – ideally journalism qualification or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of international media experience, ideally television and/or digital
  • Experienced and versatile journalist with in-depth knowledge, sound journalistic judgment and track-record of television and digital productions, social media platforms, an organised quick-thinker
  • Thorough knowledge of European and global affairs, current events, politics, European institutions, geopolitics, economy, social affairs, history, media
  • Strong editorial skills: ability to recognize stories, trends with high potential for compelling television, including talk-show debating, strong storytelling skills for television and digital platforms
  • Strong understanding and experience of newsroom production systems ideally at international level, newsgathering and visual storytelling on television and digital platforms including social media
  • Strong skills and experience in writing and desktop editing, strong researcher
  • Strong control room experience, a reputation of being a team player, and detail oriented,
  • Capable of staying calm under pressure, listening, taking direction and communicating, meeting multiple deadlines on television and digital platforms
  • Candidates that thrive in a fast-moving, flexible newsroom and know how to react to the needs of the team and variable situations
  • Fluency in French and English, fluency in third language definitely an asset
  • For the need of a specific show : fluency in Greek and Portuguese; third language appreciated
  • Must be willing to work in Brussels, Belgium

Contract information:

  • Location: Brussels
  • Type of contract: one-year fixed term contract
  • Working hours: Full-time, from Monday to Friday
  • Flexibility required: occasional evening and weekend work
  • Contract start date: October 2024
