OVERALL MISSION

The deputy editor of Euronews Green and Travel plays a pivotal role in the editorial development and ownership of two highly successful digital content verticals. 

We earn millions of views per month and have excellent contacts within the industry for sources and collaborations.

The main purpose of this role is to write, commission and oversee top class editorial content that drives high traffic and engagement to the Euronews Green and Euronews Travel websites.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

- In conjunction with the Managing Editor, editorial and technical oversight of all content

- Stepping into the Managing Editor role when necessary

- Writing articles from scratch and adapting wires/agency copy

- Sub-editing content written by team or freelance contributors

- Commissioning articles

- Carefully following working processes to ensure adherence to daily and weekly publishing schedule

- Looking for ways to continually improve our content, style and working processes

- Proactively maintaining strong relationships with contributors, freelance writers, PRs and internal and external stakeholders

- Taking an active role in ideas generation for content forward planning

- Planning and overseeing content for commercially driven events

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Skills

- 5+ years’ experience in journalism

- First class editorial judgment and instinct for a great story

- Experience in writing and sub-editing digital content (video and text), including wires and agency content. Environmental and travel editorial content preferred

- Experience with commissioning and managing freelance contributors

- Demonstrable ability to interpret and use audience analytics for content development

- Top class organisational skills

- Excellent attention to detail, while keeping big picture view

- Passion to drive projects forward and bring people onboard

- Ambitious, confident and driven to succeed.

- Aptitude for planning and setting priorities independently

- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude, especially when working under pressure and to tight deadlines

- Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and deliver when faced with ambiguity
- Perfect command of English required (C2), other European languages welcomed

Desired qualities

We are a high performing team of journalists and producers who are passionate about spreading awareness of environmental and travel issues. This role is best suited to someone with a similar drive - this can be demonstrated in many ways but experience within a digital-first news environment would be ideal.

The deputy editor should lead by example by working creatively, collaboratively, showing willingness to take risks and remain positive even when things don’t go as planned. This will all be done in the knowledge that as long as your decisions are well thought through, responsible and ethically sound, you’ll be supported and encouraged by those around you.

CONTRACT INFORMATION

- Contract type: 1 year maternity cover, with potential for progression opportunities afterwards

- Start date: 29th October 2024

- Place of work: Fully remote but candidates must be based in UK or Europe time zones. Occasional work travel to see the team or gather content.

- Working hours: 8.30am-4.30pm or 10am-6pm CET
