Correspondent Journalist - EURONEWS KAZAKHSTAN

Since 1993, Euronews has been the leading international news media in Europe, resulting in a unique European identity and multilingual model in 17 languages (12 language editions and five branded affiliates). 

Euronews will launch an editorial bureau in Astana, Kazakhstan which will produce a variety of current affairs content, including several shows focused on heritage, culture, business and regional personalities as well as news coverage. These programs, produced locally, are intended for a global audience and for a comprehensive view of Central Asia and of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

OVERALL MISSION 

As part of our new office, we are looking for an experienced Correspondent Journalist based in Almaty. 

The correspondent journalist is responsible for covering Central Asia and Kazakhstan news, either from within or outside of it.  

The correspondent journalist is capable of handling breaking news stories (last-minute topics, live coverage) and providing new perspectives on current events or covering a variety of topics from diverse sources.  

The Almaty Correspondent reports hierarchically to the local Bureau Chief and his/her Deputy and Euronews Central Newsroom. 


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Write articles, produce reports (text and/or video), and participate in live broadcasts (on-camera or mobile device) as requested by the Bureau Chief 
  • Contribute to the writing of articles, the production of reports, magazines, or video stories by providing the point of view or images from Kazakhstan and following the guidelines of the Bureau Chief 
  • Supervise and closely follow news from Kazakhstan (or Central Asia), pursuing leads to propose topics of interest to the targeted public to the Bureau Chief 
  • Develop a strong local network to quickly respond to major events and breaking news situations.  
  • Conduct live broadcasts from mobile devices 
  • Be active on social media both for information gathering and communication purposes 
  • Be willing to travel to where events are taking place and be capable of covering their development live on the ground.  
  • Provide regular reports to the Bureau Chief 
  • Represent Euronews in the region (conferences, forums, etc.) 

 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 
 

Technical Skills 

  • Education level required: 4/5 years’ higher education – journalism qualification or equivalent 
  • Experience in shooting, writing, editing, and mixing video subjects, and on-camera presentation 
  • Strong on-camera presence and excellent on-camera presentation skills 
  • Language skills: Excellent command and professional practice of Kazak. Fluent English (C2), proficiency in Russian is a plus   
  • Ability to handle live information processing situations 
  • Good knowledge of global news and politics 
  •  Ability to work alone (MOJO) 
  • In-depth understanding of all audiovisual communication techniques (writing, editing, shooting, broadcasting, etc.) 
  • Good knowledge of social media 
  • Good understanding of the system for exchanging videos and information between international agencies 
  • Experience in web journalism and proficiency in specific software 
  • High level of general culture and a keen interest in current events

FURTHER INFORMATION  

  • Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan  
  • Working hours: Full-time, from Monday to Friday 
  • Flexibility required: weekend and evening work can be required 
  • Contract start date: December 2024 (to be confirmed)
