Are you passionate about Europe — and about finding new ways to tell its stories?
Euronews is launching EU.XL, an ambitious new digital project that reimagines how European affairs are covered — through innovative, audience-centric storytelling.
Each week, our team will explore one major EU topic — from climate and migration to regulation, democracy, or technology — through a coordinated cycle of digital explainers, vertical videos, interactive polls, a curated newsletter, and an AI-powered “Answer Machine.”
We’re seeking a Digital News Editor with deep expertise in EU affairs, strong leadership and video storytelling skills, and a proven record in digital journalism to lead this Brussels-based project team.
Your Role
As the editor of the EU.XL digital team, you will:
• Lead and coordinate a small, cross-functional team of journalists and producers delivering high-quality weekly stories on EU affairs.
• Set the editorial vision for the EU.XL project, ensuring topic selection aligns with the EU agenda, audience interests, and Euronews’ editorial values.
• Oversee production of the full weekly editorial cycle: explainer, vertical video, Euro-poll, newsletter, and AI-powered Answer Machine.
• Ensure excellence in digital video storytelling, guiding the production of short, vertical videos optimized for mobile and social platforms.
• Supervise the creation of the Euro-poll, ensuring questions are timely, engaging, and relevant to the weekly topic, and integrate poll results into editorial outputs.
• Edit and contribute to the weekly newsletter, providing editorial context and insight on the chosen topic.
• Collaborate with Euronews’ Product and AI teams to feed, curate, and refine content for the AI-based Answer Machine, ensuring accuracy, tone, and audience value.
• Guide journalists in translating technical or legislative topics into compelling, accessible narratives.
• Shape and enforce digital storytelling standards, ensuring effective use of multimedia formats — text, video, data visualization (Flourish), and interactive graphics.
• Apply SEO and social optimization strategies to maximize reach and discoverability.
• Use analytics and audience feedback to refine editorial formats and engagement.
• Mentor and inspire the team, fostering innovation, collaboration, and journalistic excellence.
What You Bring
• Expertise in EU affairs: In-depth understanding of EU institutions, policymaking, and the Brussels agenda.
• Editorial leadership: Proven experience leading digital teams and managing complex editorial workflows.
• Video storytelling excellence: Strong ability to shape, script, and oversee engaging vertical video content for digital platforms.
• Digital journalism mastery: Deep understanding of multimedia storytelling, data visualization, SEO, and platform strategy.
• AI-curiosity: Interest and/or experience in AI-assisted journalism, chatbots, and digital innovation workflows.
• Audience-centric mindset: Commitment to understanding and engaging diverse European publics through interactive formats (polls, newsletters, videos).
• Professional experience: Minimum 7 years in journalism, including 2+ in an editorial leadership role, ideally within European or international news media.
• Language: Near-native English required; additional European languages are an asset.
