Desk Coordinator - EURONEWS KAZAKHSTAN

Since 1993, Euronews has been the leading international news media in Europe, resulting in a unique European identity and multilingual model in 17 languages (12 language editions and five branded affiliates). 

Euronews will launch an editorial bureau in Astana, Kazakhstan which will produce a variety of current affairs content, including several shows focused on heritage, culture, business and regional personalities as well as news coverage. These programs, produced locally, are intended for a global audience and for a comprehensive view of Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

OVERALL MISSION  

As part of our new office, we are looking for a Desk Coordinator. 

As a member of the Newsgathering Desk, The Desk Coordinator is responsible for organizing and coordinating Euronews Kazakhstan' news gathering and production operations.  

The Desk Coordinator manages the newsgathering and production needs of various sources, including correspondents, freelancers and partnerships, across all platforms (digital and TV). The Desk Coordinator works in collaboration with other departments to ensure the delivery of high quality, timely and relevant news content in line with Euronews Kazakhstan' editorial strategy and objectives. 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Desk Coordinator ‘s role will be to: 

  • Act as a control tower for newsgathering and news production operations, under the direction of the Bureau Chief and Deputy Bureau Chief 
  • Coordinate with correspondents and freelancers to gather story ideas, content, and logistical requirements, determine story coverage and production needs for all platforms, plan and oversee the production and publishing of all content  
  • Collaborate with the central newsroom in Brussels and all Euronews’ content units worldwide to ensure access to all Euronews resources, including bureaus, correspondents, freelancers, and affiliates, for all content needs 
  • Coordinate the logistics of field operations. 


REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
 

Technical Skills

  • Education level required: 4/5 years’ higher education – journalism qualification or equivalent 
  • Experience in news production and newsgathering processes.  
  • Fluency in English and Kazakh (C2); proficiency in Russian is a plus.  
  • Demonstrable editorial and production acumen.  
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders.  
  • Aptitude for identifying unique story ideas and production needs.  
  • Proficiency in coordinating live coverage and preparing necessary materials.  
  • Capability to manage tight deadlines and multiple concurrent projects.

FURTHER INFORMATION 

  • Location: Astana, Kazakhstan  
  • Working hours: Full-time, from Monday to Friday 
  • Flexibility required: weekend and night work can be required 
  • Contract start date: December 2024 (date to be confirmed)
