Overall mission:

The Senior News Editor is in charge with the overall output of the service, on television and on the digital platforms, being the ultimate responsible for the quality of the output.

Senior Editors have a strong experience in visual storytelling both in video and text, for all formats, be capable to thrive under the pressure of breaking news, being able to deliver information as it is happening without sacrificing the quality and journalistic integrity of the on-air and on-line product, being proactive in pursuing news leads and connecting with all teams of Euronews.

The Senior Editor is an experienced media professional, both on digital and television, with a strong track record in breaking news, headline stories and features, in charge with finding, reporting and covering major stories in the region, including breaking news, headline-stories, features, driving original content, and uncovering new stories from various sources. 

A first class, experienced news professional, with an optimal level of Arabic and English language at broadcast level, the senior editor leads the output process of the team, the day-to-day content of the media under the direction of the Head of Service, assuring the highest editorial and production standards, with the full respect of Euronews editorial values, principles and guidelines as well as operational processes.

Has a solid understanding of and great passion for regional and world news.

Coordinates story publications with the central newsroom editors and produces under deadline pressure without compromising editorial integrity and credibility.

Seeks, plans, researches, produces, delivers, and supervises news and current affairs content (text and/or video) from the region, assigns journalists with day-to-day stories, as requested by the head of service.

Coordinates the journalists in his/her jurisdiction, sub-editing their scripts and is overseeing all content publishing process online for maximum performance and quality.

Drives new leads and topics of interest, is proactive in pursuing news leads, drives innovation in the field.

Deeply involved in the overall editorial and production planning of content on a daily basis and long term, working closely with the managing editor as well as the editorial planners in the central newsroom to devise robust and competitive coverage.

Conducts the Front-Page Editing, SEO optimization, social media and production of any television content.

Drives and ensures digital performance of content via audience and page view impact tools.

Experience in on-screen presence and commanding in breaking news situations, headline stories and interviews, capable of handling fast-moving evolutions (last-minute topics, live coverage on digital and television) and providing new perspectives on current events or covering a variety of topics from diverse sources.

Is versatile in working with cameramen and producers, as well as rigorously gather news using new, mobile technology and social media tools.

Ensures the legal and industry compliance of all published/ broadcast content, respect of video copyrights, industry standards, privacy.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Build the day's news coverage by selecting the topics to be covered online and on air
  • Responsible for the quality and accuracy of TV and digital content, he/she validates the productions published daily.
  • Guarantee the coherence of the contents about the values and the positioning of Euronews on all platforms.
  • In charge of the Front-Page Editing of the language service's website
  • Edit and distribute the rundown of each bulletin, guaranteeing its duration
  • Responsible for feeding the vertical scroll to enrich the channel and bring it closer to the digital world.
  • Ensure push notifications are sent out quickly, accurately, and precisely.
  • Coordinate breaking news situations based on available resources, processes, and tools (live blog, live on air, push notification.)
  • Ensure performance of stories via audience and page view impact
  • Writes news articles in the language of assignment, especially on weekends.


Your profile:

Technical skills

  • Education level required: 4/5 years’ higher education – journalism qualification or equivalent
  • Language skills: Excellent command and professional practice of the language of the country where the position is located (C2 level). Fluent English (C1 minimum level). Proficiency in French and any additional “Euronews” languages is a plus.
  • 8 years of professional experience in news media (audio-visual, online).
  • Broad general knowledge allowing him/her to cover a variety of topics.
  • Mastery of news writing in its composition and tone.
  • Very good digital culture and fluency in the use of technology and web design.

  • Location: Doha, with permanent contact with editorial offices and the headquarters of Euronews.
  • Schedule: shift patterns.
